Wax Melt Safety
Safety Notes
Like you, we love nothing more than lighting our burners and getting cosy under a thick blanket curled up on the sofa, at 143 Scents we want to make sure you do so safely and strongly advise all our customers to read the following important information.
- Always start with a clean ceramic burner. (We highly recommend using a burner designed for wax, not oil burners.) Remove all previous wax.
- Place 1-2 portions of wax in the well of your burner depending on the size of your dish. Less is more with wax, more wax doesn't mean more fragrance infact, it can often have the opposite effect. Shallow dishes may not look like they hold much wax but they can often give off the best scent throw.
(Do not over fill your wax burner as this could create a spillage causing damage to surrounding surfaces and furniture and potentially cause a fire.) - Place your burner on a heat proof surface.
- Only use good quality unscented tealights with a maximum burn time of 4 hours and let your burner cool down before relighting a further tealight. We do not reccomend 8 hour tealights, these can over heat the wax and burn the scent out much quicker. A 4 hour tealight heats at a steady tempreture releasing the maxium fragrance.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not place burner in way of a draught.
- Keep well away from curtains and flammable objects.
- Do not move burner whilst lit.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Dispose of wax carefully and never pour wax down a sink or the toilet.
- Replace your burner if cracks and / or chips appear.
- Always ensure your burner is completely dry when using.
- Ensure no water ever comes in contact with your wax.
Cleaning your burner
π The Cold Method
-
Blow out the tealight and let the wax cool slightly.
-
Once it has hardened but is still a little soft, gently pop it out with a spoon or silicone tool.
-
Wipe the dish with a cotton pad or tissue.
π The Cotton Ball Method
-
Light your tealight for a few minutes until the wax just melts.
-
Blow it out and drop in 2–3 cotton balls to soak up the liquid wax.
-
Wipe clean with a tissue. (Dispose of cotton balls safely once cool, don't dispose in the toilet!)
π The Warm Tap Method (for stubborn wax)
-
Light the tealight for 20–30 seconds – just enough to loosen the base.
-
Gently tap the dish or push from the side and the wax should slide out.
-
Wipe away any residue with a cloth or tissue.
-
Never pour wax down the sink or toilet – it can block drains.
-
Don’t use knives or sharp tools to scrape wax, as this can damage your burner.
-
Always let your burner fully cool before washing with warm, soapy water and if washing is needed, make sure to fully dry your burner before reusing ensuring there is no water or moisture left.
β¨ Remember: A clean burner means stronger fragrance throw, safer use, and prettier vibes for your home!
